Welcome to SAWMILL CHAPTER

Sawmill, AZ, known in Navajo as Ni’ii Ji’ih, was established in the 1920s with early sawmill operations near Fluted Rock. After a fire in 1940, a new mill was built at the current site. The chapter was certified in 1957 and is located 20 miles north of Window Rock. Community members actively support housing, utilities, road improvements, education, and livestock care. In the 1960s, local timber was processed in Navajo, NM, until the mill closed in 1994. KTNN AM radio’s towers, located nearby, broadcast across over 32,000 square miles, reaching much of the Navajo Nation
